Recently, for the annual project application of the Sunshine In Your Heart by Red Cross China, Red Cross Society of China Jet Li One Foundation Project committee passed the statistic research with the unanimous opinion to approve the application of “Sunshine in Your Heart Care Center” and “Psychological Crisis Prevention Training Program”.  Meanwhile, one million RMB will be transferred from the donation fund of One Foundation for these two annual projects. 

Ever since establishment, Red Cross Society of China Jet Li One Foundation Project has been advocating the concept of Psychological Cleansing, especially the psychological health of our youth.  Currently One Foundation transferred one million RMB for project fund for Sunshine in Your Heart.  The purpose is to promote high school psychological health education and the professional and systematic development of our social psychological crisis prevention work. 

Sunshine in Your Heart Care Center Project

Currently the psychological health of our youth in China is not optimistic, especially the current university students.  Based on relevant statistics, there are about 30 million youth with psychological problems to various levels in China.  There are 16% to 25.4% university students with psychological barrier.  The number of students who drop out of school or suspend from school due to psychological problems is raising every year, among which 37.9% are due to psychological illness in the total number of those who suspend from school.  64.4% drop out of school due to psychological illness.  These astonishing numbers, on top of the suicide statistics of university students, are a warning sign to us that we cannot wait longer to strengthen psychological education in our universities.

In the fund approved for transfer, there will be 580,000RMB used to on the Sunshine in Your Heart Care Center project to care for the psychological health of university students. 

Although there are usually psychological consulting organizations with teachers in our universities, few possess the knowledge and consulting method.  There is also few material for teaching and reading, most of which are not able to solve practical confusions and problems our students face in life.  Sunshine in Your Life targets these above problems, focusing education and training in universities, families and students, to build a safety umbrella to protect the psychological health of our students.  

The main content of this project includes to set up Sunshine in your heart Care Center in 58 universities around the country, to provide professional training courses for the psychological consulting teachers, to provide book shelves, book and consulting manuals on Sunshine in your heart, to contact international and domestic experts for trainings and seminars for psychological staff, students and parents, and to organize volunteers to have one-on-one consulting and support for the students. 

Psychological Crisis Prevention Program

In the approval funding, 420,000RMB will be used for the Psychological Crisis prevention program.  Psychological crisis is when people face natural disasters, immediate family death, or other adverse major disasters, facing tremendous psychological pressure and causing psychological imbalance and health problems.  Clinical studies show that psychological crisis in serious cases can cause psychological breakdown or even suicide. 

One Foundation has been concerned with the psychological recovery of people after natural disasters and major crisis.  Currently our country have mature system for material support, but not enough emphasis on the psychological support for the people in disaster zones.  The current psychological crisis prevention work are mostly reactive, supporting and treating only after the problems have occurred, lacking prevention and proactive measures.  One Foundation hopes that with the implementation of this project, there will be a network of sufficient psychological crisit prevention, timely discover problems and giving direction to prevent psychological crisis and its serious consequences. 

Psychological Crisis Prevention Project will organize international symposium for domestic and international scholars for experience exchange, training, material editing to raise the level of knowledge for the staff on psychological crisis prevention.  We will train the volunteers, including Red Cross system staff, psychologists, social workers, doctors, nurses, rescue workers through trainings.  The goal is to train 4800 psychological crisis prevention volunteers in one year. 

In addition, the project will train university student volunteers, to train the students to care and help others.  On one hand, the students will rediscover themselves in the process of helping others and to take up the pressure.  On the other hand, students will obtain knowledge of psychological health and balance.  In the process of helping others, they can better manage their own problems. 

Red Cross Society of China Jet Li One Foundation Project will actively participate in the implementation of the two above projects and supervise the usage the funding and execution of the plans.  Meanwhile, One Foundation invites the media and society to be concerned and supervise the implementation of the projects.  After the completion of the projects, One Foundation, together with Sunshine in Your Heart, will conduct summary and evaluation of the progress of the project to determine the direction and target of future work.

It is a long term process to build up the social network for psychological health education and psychological crisis prevention.  We need the support and effort from all sides of society, just as promoted by One Foundation.  We are all living on one earth as one family.  If we all contribute a little love, we can make our world an ocean of love.  More people will feel the warmth of the big family, living happily.  Social balance can be achieved through individual balance.
