On January 31, one day before the campaign was launched, staff workers and volunteers of One Foundation went to Shenzhen Welfare Centre, Shenzhen Shelian Social Services Centre (Angels Home) and Shenzhen Autism Society, visited and learnt health and family condition of the 4 orphans and disabled children who will be aided through this campaign.

At 2:00p.m. February 1, “New Year Lucky Money” fund-raising campaign unveiled the curtain at 4 locations in Shenzhen on schedule. Many residents put red envelopes with new year lucky money as well as their best wishes in the donation boxes, which added more warmth to this city of love as it’s embracing the Spring Festival in the Year of Rabbit. At Shenzhen Shucheng fund-raising location, Zhong Jianlin and his 8 years old son Zhong Jinchen arrived early. After reading report on the newspaper, Zhong brought his child and came specially for the donation. When being asked why he brought his child here to do charity, Zhong said nowadays children know little about poverty and suffering. He hopes to teach his child to cherish his happy life and reach out for those in need through participating in such charity event. Little Jinchen advanced part of his new year lucky money, put them into a red envelope, and wrote “Happy New Year” on the envelope. “I’d like to share my new year lucky money with other children”, he said. One Foundation also invited Jinchen, as donor representative, to hand the donated money to the aided children with volunteers after the campaign. At Yitian Holiday Square fund-raising location, Tangtang, who was only 2 years and 5 months old, put a pile of small changes into the donation box with her mother’s help and said proudly “I did something good.” Ms. Zhang, who was pregnant for 2 months, donated on behalf of her baby. She wrote down “Health and Happiness” on the red envelope.

At each fund-raising location, there were 2 to 3 volunteers doing on site introduction and coordination. They came from Pengxing Social Work Service, Dalang Home of Love, and supporting team of Shenzhen Autism Society. Volunteer Hu Shuyan said in addition to explain to the residents the purpose and significance of this campaign, they wanted to tell them that no matter how much they donated, it’s a token of good will. So they gave a thank-you card to every donor, which reads “dear family member”. This adheres to the concept of “One Foundation, One Family”. After each day of donation, staff workers of One Foundation would count the money and saved it in the bank under the supervision of auditing volunteers from Deloitte.

“New Year Lucky Money” fund-raising campaign not only attracted many donors to the site, but also inspired heated online discussion among net users. Tencent micro-blogger A Meng wrote: I decided to donate the limited amount of money I have for those in need, but my good will far exceeds the amount of money.” Another micro-blogger angelye wrote: I always gave red envelope to my parents for the past years since I started working. This year I gave additional one to orphan.” Net user Ai Lin of Kaixin001.com said he would get red envelope with New Year lucky money for the last time this year, so he will donate 300 yuan for orphans and disabled children. Over the short period of time, more than 50,000 net users refueled the campaign and sent in their best wishes online.

As the advocator and practitioner of China’s philanthropy, One Foundation launched “New Year Lucky Money” fund-raising campaign to encourage the One Family members to pay more attention to orphans and disabled children during festival time, and bring them warmth and wishes through sending red envelopes with lucky money.
