Founded by the well-known movie star Jet Li, One Foundation cooperated with the Red Cross of Society Singapore to raise money for the victims suffering from the Sichuan earthquake in order to help them get through their difficulties.
This evening, Jet Li released the news during a press conference held in the headquarters of the Singapore Red Cross, located in Binlang Lane. He said, “ One Foundation has been preparing the head office of Singapore two or three months before launched, and the preparation work will be finished in one and a half months when the shocking earthquake hit Sichuan.”
Jet Li, who was busy with the preparation, got in touch with the Red Cross Society of Singapore through the International Organizations Programme Office, a newly set up organization by the Economy and Development Bureau. They clicked with each other for the Red Cross of Society Singapore originally prepared to launch a fund-raising activity for the quake victims.
The new trans-governmental Bureau of Economy and Development aims to provide consultation and training services for international organizations that are interested in setting up their regional headquarters in Singapore.
Jet Li got the idea of setting up One Foundation after he survived from the South Asian Tsunami in 2004. He encouraged each kind-hearted individual to donate one yuan per month, which when accumulated could help the needy.
He said, “The concept of One Foundation is that we are one global family and together we can overcome any challenge or disaster. Love is everywhere. One Foundation offers a global platform for every person; even one yuan is helping.” The fund-raising activity will last until June 14. The Singapore Red Cross will hand all charitable money over to the Red Cross Society of China through the International Red Cross and IFRC. The local government did not set a goal for fund-raising, but as of yesterday, 6,000 RMB has been collected. |
