At 9:40 a.m. this morning the frontline team of more than 30 members, led by Jet Li, drove to the heavily damaged Shifang county, Sichuan province. The team brought along seven trucks of relief material.

Due to the poor condition of the road, the relief team arrived at the first stop Yinghua town at about 1:00 p.m. Four trucks of material including 2,000 trunks of water, rice, flour etc. were handed over to the town government to be distributed to the victims. Later, the team arrived in Shifang county with three trucks of rice, tents, water, flour, blankets, sanitary items, rubbish cans etc. These items were handed out by the county government and the local Red Cross.

Jet Li took part in the relief activities by helping to carry the relief materials with staff of the local Red Cross. It was really spectacular that each trunk of relief material was passed down from hand to hand in a line. When the reporters saw that Jet Li was carrying a 45-jin tent, they put aside their cameras and offered help. With the help of everyone, the transportation work was done in a short time. Sweat was dripping, but none of the workers felt tired, instead, they were especially happy. The whole process was full of love and everyone was moved to tears.

Wiping the sweat from himself, Jet Li concluded, “ We finally handed the relief material to the suffering victims! We are here to give a helping hand. I know that you are happy rather than tired. We want to thank the Red Cross Society in China, the Sichuan Red Cross and the local Red Cross for their support. Without their help, we could not have achieved the task so successfully.”

That night, the frontline team held a meeting on the day’s transportation tasks so that they could be done more effectively in the future. The team also learned that medicine was still badly needed. The medicine collected by One Foundation will be shipped to Chengdu tomorrow morning (May 19) and will be distributed to the devastated areas as soon as possible.
