At 19:19:13, July 9, 2009, a M6.0 earthquake hit Yao’an County, Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, affecting 2.059 million people in 11 counties of Yunnan. One Foundation - which had just completed the flood relief work in Liuzhou, Guangxi – immediately prepared and purchased the relief material, with the first shipment including 900 bottles of cooking oil and 40 tons of rice (worth about RMB 160,000) arriving at the epicenter – Yao’an on July 13 and 14.
After the quake, One Foundation Rescue League, which was carrying out flood relief in Liuzhou, immediately dispatched its Yunnan team to Yao'an for an on-site survey. After learning about the shortage of rice, cooking oil and other living necessities, One Foundation quickly contacted suppliers including Kunming U-SYS Corp., which helped to prepare the 900 bottles of cooking oil overnight. In addition, 40 tons of rice was gathered through other channels. By the effort of many, and with the full support from Yunnan Red Cross, Chuxiong Red Cross and Yao’an Red Cross, Yunnan Emergency Rescue Society's volunteer team – member of One Foundation Rescue League finally shipped the material from Kunming to Yao’an on July 13.
