On November 10th, 2007, the “Sunshine in your Heart” project was formally commenced in Beijing, sponsored by One Foundation and carried out by Sunshine in Your Heart Project. “One Foundation Project” and “Sunshine in Your Heart Project” held an inaugurate ceremony for the first involved colleges and universities in BUAA.

“Sunshine in Your Heart Care Center” established by the Sunshine in Your Heart Project and the Psychological Consultative Centers in the colleges and universities in China is to improve the establishment and development of the mental-health education and consultation centers.

Understanding the necessity of a program like the Sunshine in Your Heart Project, The Red Cross Society of China Jet Li One Foundation Project, with its support of mental health issues, donated 580,000 RMB in July of this year to the program to help its plans of building care centers to fifty-eight colleges and universities in China.

In the months leading up to November 10th, ten universities had brought in book shelves and books for the centers in Beijing. On that day, the secretary general Wang Haijing of Red Cross Society of China and Jet Li the founder of One Foundation others visited the centers in Beijing University, Qinghua Universities and BUAA, and had discussions with the teachers and students there. They found that it was very urgent for college students to learn knowledge about mental health and to establish a sound environment for the development of students with help from all walks of life. 

A survey made by China Youth Daily sttates that 14% of the students suffer from the depression, 17% from anxiety, and 12% from aggressive personalities. Although most colleges and universities have the psychological consultative center, the psychological consultants need to be more professional in terms of expertise and counseling techniques. Moreover, the related teaching and reading materials are limited. Therefore, still more are needed to help students get out of their trouble and confusion in real life.
