On the night of October 17th, 2007, amidst the breathtaking game played by NBA players, the NBA game in Shanghai also announced the collaboration between NBA and the One Foundation.
On that morning, the legendary George Gervin and Rick Barry, as the first representatives of the NBA volunteering for the One Foundation, participated in the opening ceremony of the “Disney Fun House” established by One Foundation and Disney. In the evening, NBA invited the One Foundation founder Jet Li and four children with leukemia to the game, and announced the cooperation while they were there. These interacted two activities bespoke NBA’s consistent ardor toward charity; moreover, it was also the good beginning of its cooperation with One Foundation.
As one of the most successful professional sports league in the world, the NBA consistently devotes time and funds to the charity causes for the public good. “NBA Cares” is one of their projects. The education and family conditions and health of teenagers are the main focus of the NBA. Therefore, NBA believes that working with One Foundation would be greatly beneficial to the physical and mental health of China’s children.
Jet Li, founder of the One Foundation, expressed, “NBA has a great influence on the teenagers around the world, and its spirit of never giving up and fighting till the last minute is the same as what we are encouraging the teenagers to do—be strong and never give up. Besides, I believe 1+1+1=1, that is to say, each one of us lives in the big family of the earth. This one family conception is accepted and acted by many world organizations though in different forms, and is supported by many large enterprises including NBA. The point is how to make full use of the sources of each platform to best benefit the society. One Foundation’s conception is accepted by the whole world.” Four children with leukemia were also invited to the game live by NBA, One Foundation and additional partner Disney that night. Their optimistic attitude toward life moved everyone present. |
