200,000 RMB to Warm Heavy Snow Victims |

One Foundation had been closely watching the impact of the heavy snow that caught parts of China in an unusual chill. Initial investigation indicated the heavily stricken Hebei, Shanxi and Henan Province were in urgent need of relief materials such as quilts and so on. November 20th, the foundation allocated 200,000 RMB to buy relief materials for the victims of the cold weather.
From November 10th to 11th , 2009, Parts of Northern China encountered heavy snow. Some areas in Hebeim Shanxi and Henan Province recorded the thickest snow in 60 years. Snowfall in a few places topped their 100 year records. Quite a few cities saw traffic congestion, stranded passengers, broken trees and damaged buildings. Shi jiazhuang city of Hebei Province weathered a record-making precipitation of 75 mm and a snowfall of 50 cm. Areas in Anhui, Jiangsu, Hubei, Hunan, Guizhou and Jiangxi also reported massive snowfall or ice rain. 32 people have been killed by the sudden change of weather. More than a million people have been affected with a direct property loss of 7 billion yuan. Disaster has been One Foundation’s main pillars of focus. The foundation, with the experiences accumulated in the fight against heavy snow in 2008, initiated emergency plans immediately to monitor the overall situation and allocated 200,000 yuan to help the victims. Based on the principle of special fund for special use, the foundation has been reserving disaster-relief fund on the precondition of respecting donor’s wish. Our family members’ constant streams of support converged into an ocean of love. We call upon more people to join the big family and provide help and assistance to the needed. |
