| 1. On the afternoon of July 1, 2009, Indra Nooyi, Chairman and CEO of PepsiCo, together with Harry Hui, Greater China Chief Marketing Officer of PepsiCo, donated RMB 888,000 to One Foundation on behalf of Mountain Dew, famous brand of the world’s largest food and beverage company-PepsiCo. Mountain Dew wishes to help on the education project for younger generation, encourage them to broaden their horizons, be more creative, and work out their own way of life.
2. July 3rd, 2009. Following the meeting of One Foundation’s Executive Chairwoman Amy Zhou and 2006 Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus in March, the two met again in Beijing on July 3, to discuss China’s development on small loan, possible cooperation, poverty relief and many other interesting topics.
3. From June 30, heavy rainfall started to hit southern China, causing severe flood in some areas. One Foundation immediately allocated RMB 200,000 to purchase emergency relief material to help the people affected by the flood.
4. After the flood relief operation in Liuzhou, Guangxi on July 11, One Foundation extended its efforts to Yao’an, Yunnan on July 13. The first shipment of relief material included 900 bottles of cooking oil and 40 tons of rice worth about RMB 160,000.
5. July 21st, 2009. China Merchant Bank and One Foundation co-hosed a press conference to promote “One Foundation Caring All in One Card”. One Foundation Founder Mr. Jet Li, Executive Chair Ms. Zhou Weiyan and CMB’s Retail Banking General Manager Mr. Liu Jianjun attended the press conference and shared with media friend stories in the cooperation. Mr. Jet Li praised CMB for its support to open an express channel for donors and to provide convenience for more family members to know and join One Foundation’s cause. Over 200 other dignitaries joined various charitable auctions. One Foundation, CMB and other famous brands provided items for the auctions. The Night raised 384,100 RMB. One Foundation will use the fund to better philanthropy in China and benefit more people in need.
6. On the evening of July 23rd, 2009, a colorful fashion show exhibited creative works of Qiang Embroidery at Three on the Bund in Shanghai. Co-hosted by LOHAS magazine, POND’S and One Foundation’s Qiang Embroidery Aid Project, the event aimed to draw more public attention to preserving Qiang culture, improving Qiang women’s living and supporting reconstruction of quake hit areas. That night Modern Media announced promotional partnership with One Foundation.
7. July 30th, 2009. UTC Bag and One Foundation initiated an promotion called “1+1+1, happy all the way.” During the 2 month promotion, customers only have to pay 111 yuan and a used satchel for a brand new WENGER bag. The used satchel will be disinfected and repackaged for students in impoverished areas in Northwest China. UTC Bags donated 500,000 yuan to the foundation.
8. August 6th, 2009. One Foundation accepted ICT related products and services worth nearly 1,300,000 yuan from Cisco and Digital China. The donation will be used to improve network and websites for four winners of the 2008 One Foundation Philanthropy Grants.
9. August, 6th, 2009. One Foundation announced a strategic partnership with kaixin001.com. The partnership features a homepage for One Foundation on kaixin001.com and further promotional cooperation. In just a couple of days, tens of thousand of netizens signed up to become One Foundation’s fans. Jet Li, the foundation’s founder said he hoped more people would get to know philanthropy and join the big family.
10. August 12th, 2009. After typhoon Morakot hit Taiwan, the foundation immediately allocated 300,000 yuan to the affected areas. One Foundation also worked with Sina, Sohu, Netease, Tencent, Taobao, Kaixin001, Youku, Tianya and Ifeng to conduct online donation. Augst 14th, Mr. Jet Li ventured into typhoon stricken southern Taiwan with relief materials. Until 24:00 of September 2nd, the foundation has raised 3,840,857 yuan for reconstruction.
11. August 22nd, 2009. One of the initiators of The Climate Group, former British Prime Minister Mr. Tony Blair and One Foundation founder Mr. Jet Li cut the ribbon in Guiyang city for the Solar Powered LED Project. The project is the first of its kind since the foundation signed an agreement with The Climate Group in March.
12. August 27th, 2009. Huiyuan Group and One Foundation held a ceremony to celebrate the strategic partnership between the two. Huiyuan Group donated one million yuan to the foundation. Each purchase of Huiyuan’s VC fruit juice will generate one yuan donation to the foundation in the fields of children and education.
13. September 1st, 2009. The First Day of the Semester went on CCTV-2. Mr. Jet Li was invited to the show. He called on everyone to donate one yuan by sending short messages to build a Hope school for quake affected children in Taiwan. The show gathered 1,000,327 yuan through the 689,667 messages sent to China Mobile and China Unicom.
14. September 2nd, 2009. One Foundation and D.light initiated a project to “light the hope”. The project provided solar powered lights and training to impoverished households to improve the living environments of locals and help them walk out of poverty. The project time extends to November and is conducted at three poverty stricken villages in Meigu county, Liangshan, Sichuan Province.
15. September 5th, 2009. More than 30 One Foudation Caring All in One Card holders and staff from China Merchant Bank and One Foundation came to Beijing Stars and Rain. They were there to experience a volunteer day. Beijing Stars and Rain is one of the winners of the 2008 Philanthropy Grants. It is China's first non-governmental educational organization dedicated to serving children with autism. The volunteers received professional training, got to know children’s interests and played games with them. The day enabled them to have a deeper understanding to children with autism and their parents. The foundation hopes more volunteer activities will be hosted in the future.
16. September 13th, 2009. The Third One Foundation Charity Saloon Car Race was held in Chengdu Goldenport International Circuit. The theme was “constant support to Sichuan reconstruction.”Celebrity volunteers called on audience to send text messages to make donations. The race gathered 500,000 yuan and will be used on disaster relief projects.
17. September 17th, 2009. One Foundation and Dongfeng Peugeot launched cooperation titled “starting from heart.”The cooperation features Peugeot 307 sedans sold from September to December. Each purchase of the car will generate 100 yuan for One Foundation’s education and environment projects.
18. September 26th, 2009. One Foundation Shanghai Office worked with Shanghai Wildbirds Association. More than 20 staff members went to Nanhui Dongtan to observe birds. The members had a first hand impression of the importance to protect bio diversity in wetland areas.
Sichuan Reconstruction Projects.
Poverty Alleviation
1、 Qiang Embroidery Aid Project in Aba Tibetan-Qiang Autonomous Region. The project is a long-term and consistent effort for reconstruction and folk culture preservation. It is executed in Wen, Li and Mao county in Aba Tibetan-Qiang Autonomous Region. The project aims to help women in Aba Tibetan-Qiang Autonomous Region and other severely affected areas to receive embroidery training and attain alternative livelihood. 30,000 women are expected to be involved in the project by 2017. 10,000 are expected to be employed by the end of 2017. The 2009 goal of the project is to train 2,000 embroidery workers by the end of the year. If the planned sales target of 4.7 million RMB can be reached, 660 households will become financially self-independent (incremental revenue target: 1,000 per household). In Q1 and Q2 of 2009, the project has trained over 800 women in Wenchuan, Li and Mao county. Mengniu group ordered products worth more than 3 million yuan and directly benefited over 7,000 Qiang families.
In Q3, with the help of Modern Media Group and POND’S, the project had its first trial run to combine Qiang embroidery with fashion. The promotion in Shanghai and Hong Kong was successful.
2、Pig Farm Project for Impoverished Mothers. After the Qiang Embroidery Project, the foundation worked with Chengdu Women’s Federation and started a project for the poverty stricken mothers in quake hit areas. The project features sustainable livelihood. It provides 50 mothers with a fund to raise pigs. The sales of the cubs will provide more funding to help more mothers. As of September 30th, the project conducted 11 health checks, disease prevention in 50 households and 4 times of training covering 230 villagers. Only one pig has been killed by disease so far, accounting for a ration of 7%. The cubs weight an average 68 kg each. The grown ups weight 97.5 kg and were sold at 12 yuan/kg for 1,170 yuan each. The average income generated by pig raising reached 2,340 yuan. The 50 mothers are returning the funds so it may help more people in need.
Education
3、 One Foundation Children Home in Sanjiang.
As of June, 2009, the project opened children homes in the village of Jie, Zhaobi, Heba, Qishan and Maliu. It also built a fun park for children. As of the end of Q2, One Foundation Children Homes provided physiologic intervention for nearly 8,000 children, parents and teachers through painting, sandbox and games. A work team of 9 was established to enhance local work ability. Direct beneficiaries topped 5,334 in Q3, with a indirect beneficiary of 199. The execution in the past year has led to the formulation of a standard text for post-disaster psychological aid. The text has gone through third party assessment.
4、 Luowan Central Elementary School Longxin building project.
The school has 715 kindergarten, elementary and junior school students and 46 teachers. May 12 earthquake destroyed most of the facility. Junior school’s multi-purpose rooms were reassigned to elementary school students. Experiment classes had come to a halt. The project will provide funding for a brand new classroom building, a reconstructed main gate with gatehouse. The project is going to adopt all-frame structures in construction. This will provide safer environment for teachers and students. As of September, the project finished initial design of the Longxin building and confirmed bidding construction companies. It is currently in the bidding phrase.
5、One Foundation Longtai Washroom Project.
The project started on December 15th, 2009. The Junior School of Longtai Township, Zhongjiang County has 1,340 students and over 60 teachers. Teaching facilities including washrooms have been seriously crippled in the earthquake. One Foundation decided to help the students and teachers after field investigation. The project has completed at the end of August and passed assessment. The washrooms were put in use early September.
6、 Alibaba & One Foundation Aid Project for Qsingchuan Teachers.
In earlier April 2009, Alibaba & One Foundation Aid Project for Qsingchuan Teachers officially launched. The project aims to pay off a financial aid of RMB 2000/year/person to 593 teachers. These teachers are either from the 15 most severely damaged schools of Qsingchuan Province, or have lost their family members in the disaster. The initial amount of financial aid, which is RMB 800/person, has been paid off in open and just condition, witnessed by staff members from Alibaba, One Foundation and Qsingchuan Bureau of Education. As of September, the project is distributing the second batch of aid. The second part of financial aid will be paid off by the end of December, 2009.
7、One Foundation Sunny School – Huang Yangguan Tibetan Town Central Elementary School.
June 11, 2009, One Foundation Sunny School – Huang Yangguan Tibetan Town Central Elementary School started construction in the school’s original site. The classroom buildings and other facilities have been severely crippled. The emergency assessment team decided not to use them any more. The crippled facilities and buildings have been demolished. Currently, all 95 students are living and having classes in makeshift houses. After a month of field investigation and assessment, One Foundation initiated the project to provide students and teachers with improved infrastructures. The new school has nearly 900 square meters of classrooms, 300 square meters dormitory as well as 150 square meters playground and other affiliated facilities. These facilities will be able to serve 112 students and allow 80 lodging students. August 10th, 2009, the teaching building, student dormitory and canteen passed foundation assessment and is now under structural construction. The affiliated facilities will begin construction early October.
8、 One Foundation Children Psychological Social Support Project
Due to satisfactory results of the children home project in July 2008, after a few tours, Versace global HQ has decided to support One Foundation Children Home’s operation in 2009. Versace funded One Foundation Children Home in Shuimo. Until June 30, makeshift classrooms have been completed and summer camp has enrolled enough children. The activity room opens every Friday. Staff members organize out door activities, painting events, handcraft lessons as well as children dancing. Interest groups will be formed in July. The project aims to serve 758 children in Shuimo elementary school. As of September 30th, direct beneficiaries reached 5,037 person times, volunteer serves reached 135 person times.
9、One Foundation Children Welfare Institute in Aba Tibetan-Qiang Autonomous Region
One Foundation and local government provide funding for the project. The construction started on March 15, 2009. The institute will become a children welfare organization, capable of providing foster, recovery, education and special training services to 150 handicapped and orphaned children. As of September, 2009, the main building and the student’s dorm completed and is now under plastering. The teacher’s dorm has finished main structure building and is painting its walls.
10、One Foundation Green Primary School
One Foundation signed the agreement with Heihu elementary school in March, 2009, marking the start of the project. The school stands 2,000 – 2,500 meters above sea level and occupies an area of 6,482.4 m² with gross floor area of 4,409.04 m². The project is designed under considerations for local Qiang culture, climate as well as environment. Original building language and sign system have been conserved, with added green ingredients. The school will become an eco friendly, energy efficient and recyclable pioneer. September 6th, the teaching building, office building, student dormitory and teacher dormitory passed the foundation assessment, now they are under structural construction. Project partner Friends of Nature will host environmental education activities in the school in October.
Environment
11、Green Home Project:
On May 20, 2009, One Foundation launched its Green Home Project in Yujiang village, Luoshui county, Shifang city. The Project adopts an open approach to inspire villager participation in home reconstruction and development and will accumulate experiences for rural ecology, production, environment and economic development through ability building and training. The Project aims at facilitating the construction of an economical, eco-friendly and unique residential and public system while preserving the characteristics of local landscape. As of September, the project has finished a blueprint of overall planning, 40 pieces of permanent housing design. Meanwhile, One Foundation provided 3 gradual training sessions to town officials and villagers and 1 reconstruction training for villagers. The project printed 3,000 copies of 5.12 quake hit area gradual reconstruction schematics and completed a building made from recycled materials with a gross floor space of 100 square meters. In October, Sichuan Shuguang and Shende consulting will conduct third-party assessment.
12、 Trash separation & compression unit in Pengzhou
The project is the first of One Foundation’s reconstruction environment projects. One Foundation’s partner Tetra Pak Beijing, Co, Ltd. provides funding; One Foundation supervises the execution of the project. Situated in Laishou village, Tianpeng town, Pengzhou city, the project occupies 3,500 square meters. The project is estimated to be able to process 200 tons of domestic waste. Garbage collected ratio is expected to reach 92%. The project is currently underway and will benefit nearly 200,000 people. As of September, the project has finished workshop and factory complex structural construction. Storage floor, office exterior bricks and indoor corridor were completed. The steel structure structural supporting wall, roads, outdoor gardens and sewage networks are about to complete. Professionals on the site will calibrate the sorting equipment.
Health
13、One Foundation After Quake Mental Health Services Project-Mianzhu Mental Health Services Centre, Institute of Psychology, CAS
At the end of June 2009, One Foundation worked with CAS (Chinese Academy of Sciences) and launched Mianzhu Mental Health Services Project. The goal of the project is to help Mianzhu city, one of the most severely damaged areas in May 12 earthquake, to set up a complete after quake mental health services system, by training a professional psychological consultation team, which will benefit 500,000 residents of Mianzhu city. Currently the services centre has been established. The centre has accomplished the recruiting of psychological consultants and volunteers, and has also built up network with the local bureau of education and schools (elementary schools, middle schools and high schools). Since July 16th, 2009, the center has provided free consultation to Mianzhu citizens. It has also cultivated a professional team of psychological consultant. As of October, the centre has organized 19 trainings, 17 supervisions, 200 consultations and 26 person times of mental sessions. The project is quickly getting recognition among the locals.
14、 One Foundation Mianzhu Children’s After Quake Psychological Recovery Project
On 4th of May 2009, One Foundation Mianzhu Children’s After Quake Psychological Recovery Project officially kicked off. The project will provide one sand table to every 200-300 kindergarten children so as to offer psychological aid to at least 11,000 local children through sand play therapy. The project will greatly improve preschool education, and cultivate a group of sand play therapists in Mianzhu educational system. The therapists will follow international practice and will provide education and psychological assistance to more young people in the quake-affected areas. As of early September, training of schoolteachers completed. The sandboxes are being shipped to kindergartens.
15、One Foundation Peking University Children Recovery Project. The Project is based on 5 elementary and senior schools in Sichuan quake stricken areas. The volunteers have backgrounds in psychological aid and are specially trained for this project. They will undertake psychological intervention based on the result of the psychological screening and the plans made by psychological department of Peking University. Third level intervention will be provided to students and parents. Serious cases will be picked out and transferred to a better hospital. The project will also undertake research missions and establish a data base for future research into post quake psychological intervention.
