On March 25, 2009, One Foundation founder Mr. Jet Li had a brief meeting with former British Prime Minister Mr. Tony Blair and signed a cooperation agreement with The Climate Group.
Mr. Jet Li meets with Mr. Tony Blair on Climate Change
During their meeting, Jet Li and Tony Blair discussed cooperation on carbon dioxide reduction combating climate change, and on further possibilities & ways to work together between Britain and China. Mr. Jet Li inquired about Britain’s experiences when it comes to supporting NGOs, suggestions from Mr. Blair on China’s philanthropy development. He also introduced 2009 One Foundation Philanthropy Grants to Blair.
Blair says he admires One Foundation’s contribution to the world of philanthropy, especially when it comes to standardization and industrialization of China’s philanthropy. He says he is looking forward to working with One Foundation and hopes the organization can help push for more progress in the Global Climate Negotiation to be held this December in Copenhagen. He also hopes that the foundation can help in the massive application of low-carbon techs in some Chinese cities.
Since founding, One Foundation’s five pillars of focus have been: disaster relief, education, health, environment, and poverty. Environment has always been one of the foundation’s top concerns. Last November, in the 2008 China Global Philanthropy Forum, Li had a pleasant talk with Blair. This time, the cooperation between One Foundation and The Climate Group will pave the way for future collaborations between China and the rest of the world.
