Mr. Jet Li, Founder of One Foundation won “You Bring Charm to the World Award(2008)” for his outstanding contribution in the field of public affairs. Mr. Li delivered his acceptance speech as a philanthropist rather than an actor. In his speech, Mr. Li encouraged attendees to join One Foundation’s family.

Our lives need mutual support
Everyone must be quite familiar with my story. I’ve spent years to ponder the meaning of life. In the process, I’ve discovered several things. First, I came naked, and leave the world in cerement. Second, I not only came naked, but also need others’ help. The doctor lifted both of my legs, cut my umbilical cord and helped me started breathing by giving me a gentle pat. In the life after birth, there must have been a lot of people watching over me, because infant’s fragility, my life could came to a premature end should the slightest error occurs.
As I grew older, my teachers began teaching me the ways of being a decent man. The average teenagers would believe that after 13, or 14 years old, one has reached adulthood. I’m not sure if I’d be seated in a wheelchair or having senile dementia by the end of my life, or could it be a sudden end? But either way, I’d still need someone’s help to push a button and have my body cremated, and by that time, I can’t even utter a simple word of “thank you.” So you see, life exists only because it’s watched over by others. Every year, one million people die of car accident, and no insurance company in this world can guarantee of our safety. By helping others, we’re helping ourselves, because one day, everyone will know that our lives need mutual support. I think that what my ancestors taught me, and I’m doing the best of my ability to bring the knowledge to humanity, thank you all.
