On the afternoon
of May 12th, an earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale struck
the Sichuan Province of China. Disastrous in severity, this earthquake
left even distant provinces like Beijing, Shanghai, Shanxi, Hebei,
and many others feeling strong tremors. Casualty numbers have risen
steadily throughout the night, and an exact assessment of the damage
is still being conducted. The greater China and the world community
have turned their attention to the disaster relief efforts.
The One Foundation and its many partners have quickly rallied to answer
the call for relief, coordinating with the disaster site within 24
hours to pitch in help, and reaching out to the greater world community
to call for additional aid. Tencent Charity Fund has already donated
1 million RMB to the One Foundation through the Red Cross Society
to secure and send medical and other disaster relief supplies to the
victims. Tencent, Sohu, Taobao, Tianya, Yahoo, NetEase , MTVCHINA
(and a rising number of others), have also actively coordinated with
the One Foundation to begin online donation campaigns, gathering the
hearts and thoughts of the greater community and sending them to the
disaster victims.
To the victims, the One Foundation, along with everyone in the One
Family, wants to convey their heartfelt warmth and thoughts: you are
not alone in these trying times, please hold on to your hopes and
count on the fact that everyone in the One Family are working hard
to bring you help and relief as quickly as possible. To the greater
global community, the One Foundation continues to call for additional
support and help in the relief efforts.
All current donations for
the Sichuan earthquake relief will be placed into the One Foundation's
account under the China Red Cross Society, to ensure the direct distribution
of the aid for relief efforts. Please indicate "One Foundation
